I've made peace with the fact that I don't always have something to say
Hello friends,
When I started this newsletter, I intended to write it every week. Since the pandemic, though, I haven't experienced much worth saying. My immune system, or lack thereof, has kept me from traveling any farther than my backyard. My days have all been relatively the same.
At first, I felt guilty for not writing regularly, but now I've accepted that I don't need to write to you every week if I have nothing to say. And, more than that, I've made peace with the fact that I don't always have something to say.
That being said, I was excited to write to you today. I'm battling fatigue, and my body feels like it's weighed down by cinder blocks, but I feel good. I went back to basics in my journal by using the OG bullet journaling method, and I'm much more focused because of it. It's helped me get a better grasp on my short- and long-term goals, as well as what I need to get done on any given day. My journal might not be the most Instagram-worthy, but it's become one of my closest friends.
I also bought a new camera, or rather, four new cameras. A few weeks ago, I sent out my Minolta XD to repair its shutter-hang issue. Unfortunately, the shop informed me that the repair would require parts that are no longer available. After taking a moment to lament the death of a camera I barely got to know, I went on the hunt for something new. This time, I decided I wanted a Pentax LX. Lucky for me, I found one in great shape. The owner was selling it as a bundle with three other Pentax cameras, four lenses, and two flash units for less money than most other LXs were being sold on their own. I snatched it up immediately.
The LX and co. arrived this week, and I loaded it up with a roll of Fuji Superia 400. It shoots beautifully, but I think I'll send it off for a CLA to get it tuned up. I'm keeping the LX and the ME Super (another camera I had my eye on) as well as the two prime lenses and one flash. I plan to sell the other gear, but if any of you want it, let me know!
My film lab also sent me my last roll of film shot on my defunct Minolta, and the shots that weren't marred by the shutter-hang are beautiful if I do say so myself.
So that's the big news this week. I'm tired and worn down, but I'm still going. I move a little slower than I used to, but I'm thankful for the fact that I'm even moving at all.
I'll talk to you all next week, or maybe not. We'll see what happens.
