Hello friends,
Those of us in the US celebrated Thanksgiving this Thursday, so I decided to do something a little different for this week’s newsletter. Rather than writing my usual journal entry-type essay, I want to list some things I’m thankful for at this moment. Here it is:
The changing Florida weather, bringing a dash of cool air, and the resultant joy of finally pulling my sweaters out of my closet
My family, whom I may not always agree with, but from whom I continue to learn about life and love
My neighbors’ deep-throated wind chime, which adds an unseen soundtrack to the breezes in the trees
My custom Pluto pillow, which feels the way I always imagined sleeping on a cloud to feel
Friends, both IRL and online, who are precious gems in the dark cavern of the world
Poetry, which is both a vessel and a mirror, a way to dredge beauty from the madness
The Headspace app, which continues to teach me how to be at peace with my ever-roiling thoughts
Puzzles, which are their own form of meditation, like modern-day Tibetan sand mandalas
The Dune saga, which provided an escape to another world when I couldn’t handle living in my own
Sports, which offer an entertaining outlet for all the rage I hold against the world
Evenings on the porch with a cigar and a bourbon, sweet and spicy and warm
And lastly, I’m thankful for all of you and for the time you give me every week. I hope reading these letters gives you the same feeling of community that I get from writing them.
What are you thankful for right now? Even if you aren’t in the US, there’s never a bad time for gratitude. Let me know in the comments.
Until next time,
Yardena
