Thanks for the thoughtful and evocative post. I especially appreciate the idea of being “part of the dark.”

I'm glad to read this sequel to what happened, to capture the feeling inspired at the moment the power failed right after you hit "send" on your last posting, but not quite gone, thanks to some deft pre-downloading and charging for a great film, and to be reminded of other senses coming alive in the middle of the night.

"But something about not being able to see makes the dark both more and less immersive."

Do you have a lot of street lighting in your neighborhood?

It's dead easy for me to navigate around my apartment, even without glasses, for my nightly micturition because my apartment is essentially well lit from street lights. If they went out, it'd probably be darker than I ever imagined. In such hazy half-sleep logic, I could see my brain grasping at metaphor to explain the richer darkness not only perceived, but felt. Haptic darkness.

Glad you are safe and thoroughly enjoyed the way you talked about the darkness. You gave a haunting a feel but one that gives you no fear. I swear that both Florida and Louisiana are just saturated with ghosts - two of the spookiest states i've ever visited, and. i selfishly read your piece as validation ha
